Starting a business in Malaysia is an exciting milestone, but the paperwork can often feel overwhelming. In the past, registering a business meant spending half a day at a Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM) branch, waiting for your number to be called.

Today, thanks to EzBiz SSM, you can launch your business from your living room. Whether you’re starting a side hustle or a full-time venture, here is your definitive guide to getting registered legally and quickly.

Why Registering is Non-Negotiable

In Malaysia, if you are making money from a business, you must register it. Under the Registration of Businesses Act 1956, failing to register can lead to a fine of up to RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to 2 years.

Beyond avoiding legal trouble, an SSM certificate allows you to:

  • Open a professional Business Bank Account.
  • Apply for Government Grants and SME loans.
  • Build Trust with customers and suppliers.

Step 1: Create Your EzBiz Account

The journey starts at the EzBiz Portal.

  1. Click on Sign Up.
  2. Enter your NRIC (IC Number) and full name as per your MyKad.
  3. Fill in your personal details and verify your email address.

Step 2: Verification (No Office Visit Required!)

For security, SSM needs to verify that you are who you say you are. You have two choices:

  • The Manual Way: Visit any SSM counter physically once to activate your ID.
  • The Digital Way (Recommended): Request a Video Call Verification. You will book a slot through the portal, and an SSM officer will call you via WhatsApp to verify your MyKad. Ensure you are dressed professionally and have a stable internet connection!

Step 3: Registering Your Business Details

Once your account is activated, log in and go to My Business Services > New Business Registration.

  1. Choose Your Business Name: * Personal Name: Using your name as per IC (e.g., Ali Bin Abu). Cost: RM30/year.
    • Trade Name: A catchy brand name (e.g., Ali’s Nasi Lemak Corner). Cost: RM60/year.
  2. Define Your Business Nature: Clearly list what you do (e.g., selling clothes online, providing consultancy, etc.).
  3. Premise Address: This can be your home address if you operate online.

Step 4: Payment and Approval

Review your information and pay the fee via credit card, debit card, or FPX online banking. Once submitted, SSM typically processes applications within 1 to 3 working days. Once approved, you can download your official Form A and your Business Profile immediately!

Need Assistance with Your Business Compliance?

By fulfilling the mandatory registration requirements under SSM, ensuring your Business License maintains valid records, and submitting the necessary updates through the EzBiz portal, your organization can continue to operate with total confidence and zero operational disruption.
