Issues Faced by Owner

MBJB Business License in Johor

When setting up a business at a new location (5, Jalan Jaya Putra 7/6, Bandar Jaya Putra), one of the most crucial requirements is obtaining the MBJB business license. However, the business owner are unaware of the application process, the necessary documents, and the steps required to complete the application successfully.

Without a valid MBJB business license, businesses risk facing government fines of up to RM20,000. To avoid legal issues and ensure smooth operations, it’s essential to understand the correct procedure and prepare all required documents in advance.

DBP License

Entrepreneurs operating businesses in Johor must obtain a DBP License before displaying any business signage. The application process requires strict compliance with regulations on the signboard’s size, design, and language. Failure to secure this license can result in fines, forced removal of the signboard, or other legal consequences.

DBP is responsible for reviewing applications, ensuring that signboards meet the required guidelines, and granting approvals. They also conduct inspections to verify compliance and may take enforcement action against unlicensed or non-compliant signage.

Many business owners are unaware of these requirements, leading to unnecessary delays and additional costs. To avoid penalties and ensure smooth business operations, it is crucial to obtain proper approval before putting up any signage.

FoSIM

In the food and beverages (F&B) industry, obtaining the Food Safety Information of Malaysia (FoSIM) certification from Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) is mandatory. This certification assures customers that a business’s premises and products meet the required hygiene and safety standards.

Along with the MBJB business license, F&B business owners must secure FoSIM certification to remain compliant with government regulations. Failure to obtain a valid FoSIM may result in enforcement actions, including fines or penalties imposed by KKM.

KWSP Employer Account

After setting up your business and hiring employees in Malaysia, one of your fundamental obligations as an employer is to make monthly EPF (KWSP) contributions for your employees. However, the owner are unfamiliar with the application process and the required documents. Failure to register a KWSP account within the stipulated timeframe can result in severe penalties, including imprisonment for up to three years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.

Perkeso Employer Account

After establishing your business and hiring employees in Malaysia, you are legally required to register for a PERKESO (SOCSO) employer account and contribute to your employees’ social security protection. However, the owner are unaware of the registration process and necessary documents. Failure to register a PERKESO employer account within the required timeframe can lead to strict penalties, including fines, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, as stipulated under the law.

Trademark Application

The business owner needs to register a trademark to protect the Old Street Village brand from copycats and unauthorized use. However, they are unfamiliar with the trademark application process and find it complex to navigate.

Without trademark protection, competitors could potentially copy the brand name and logo, use them to sell similar products, and mislead customers. This could result in brand dilution, reputation damage, and loss of customer trust—especially if low-quality products are falsely associated with the brand.

Securing a trademark ensures exclusive rights to the brand name and logo, preventing unauthorized use and safeguarding the brand’s identity in the market.
